I Gave Away
I gave away
pieces of myself
without a thought;
Whomever asked
I gave a rose
a song, a dance,
a sweet romance,
naive repose;
Whomever sought
I gave a part:
my thyme, my thoughts,
my beauty spots,
my open heart;
Without a thought
I gave my hours,
my days, my years,
my hopes, my fears,
my flowers.
I gave them away,
but they were worth
all the treasures,
all the pleasures
I have known on Earth.
